Other Privacy Tools We Like

Saxalit Team·August 3, 2026·5 min read

Saxalit handles data broker removal and the broader process of reclaiming your personal information. But privacy doesn't stop there. These are tools we genuinely recommend.

Each one addresses a different part of your digital life, and all of them are worth using alongside what you're doing on Saxalit.

Proton Mail

End-to-end encrypted email, based in Switzerland.

Most people don't think much about email privacy. They should. Standard email providers scan your messages to build ad profiles. Proton Mail encrypts messages so that even Proton can't read them, and when you're emailing another Proton user, the encryption is automatic.

The free tier is solid. The paid plans add custom domains, more storage, and access to the full Proton suite. If you're serious about privacy, moving your primary email to Proton is one of the highest-leverage moves you can make.

Proton VPN

A no-logs VPN with a genuinely free tier, from the same team as Proton Mail.

A VPN masks your IP address and encrypts your internet traffic from your ISP and anyone watching the network. Most VPNs make no-log claims; Proton has had its infrastructure independently audited and has a track record of not complying with data requests because there's nothing to hand over.

The free plan includes unlimited data (rare) and servers in multiple countries. The paid plan adds faster speeds and more server locations. Either way, it's one of the most trustworthy VPNs available.

Dashlane

Password manager with dark web monitoring and breach alerts.

Weak and reused passwords are one of the most common ways personal data gets compromised. Dashlane generates strong unique passwords for every account, stores them securely, and monitors the dark web for signs that your credentials have been leaked. It also flags accounts that are using compromised or outdated passwords and walks you through fixing them.

The user experience is polished, which matters. A security tool people actually use is infinitely better than one that sits unused.

Signal

End-to-end encrypted messaging and calls.

Text messages (SMS) are not private. They pass through your carrier's infrastructure unencrypted and are routinely subpoenaed, intercepted, and stored. Signal replaces your default messaging app with one where messages are encrypted end-to-end and nothing is stored on Signal's servers. The foundation that builds it is a nonprofit, and the app is open source. Its security claims have been independently verified.

For sensitive conversations with your doctor, your lawyer, or your family, Signal should be the default.

Brave Browser

Privacy-first browser with built-in ad and tracker blocking.

Chrome is the dominant browser, but it's built by an advertising company whose business depends on tracking your behavior. Brave is built on the same underlying engine (Chromium), so it works with the same extensions and websites, but blocks ads, trackers, and fingerprinting attempts by default, without needing any configuration.

It's a direct replacement for Chrome that requires almost no adjustment period and meaningfully reduces how much of your browsing behavior gets collected.

DuckDuckGo

Search engine that doesn't track you or build a profile.

Google's search results are shaped by years of data about you: your location, your search history, your interests. DuckDuckGo returns results without any of that personalization, and more importantly, without logging your searches or tying them to an identity.

The search quality is genuinely good, and DuckDuckGo has expanded into a full browser app on mobile with built-in tracker blocking. Switching your default search engine takes about 30 seconds and is one of the easiest privacy upgrades you can make.
