How data broker opt-outs actually work
Every broker has its own removal process. Some take three minutes. Some take ten. Here is what the process looks like, and a preview of the step-by-step guides inside Saxalit.
The process
Every opt-out follows the same five steps
The broker names change. The websites look different. But the underlying process is almost identical across all of them. Once you have done it two or three times, it becomes fast and routine.
01
Find your listing
Each broker site has a search function. You search for yourself by name and city to find the listing or listings that contain your information. Some brokers have multiple listings for the same person.
02
Locate the opt-out form
Every major broker is legally required to provide an opt-out mechanism, though they do not always make it easy to find. Saxalit gives you the direct link to the opt-out page for each broker so you skip the search.
03
Submit using your privacy email
Most opt-out forms ask for an email address to send a confirmation link. You use your personal @saxalit.com privacy email here, not your real address. This keeps your actual inbox out of the process entirely.
04
Verify in your Saxalit inbox
Broker confirmation emails arrive in your Saxalit inbox. You click the verification link, confirm your request, and the broker processes the removal. Most removals complete within 24 to 72 hours.
05
Mark your status and move on
Back in your Saxalit dashboard, you mark the broker as Done, In Progress, or Follow Up. Your Time to Freedom updates automatically. Then you move to the next broker on your priority list.
The key to doing it right
Never use your real email on an opt-out form
Every opt-out form asks for your email address. On the surface, this seems reasonable: they need somewhere to send your confirmation link. But handing your real email to a data broker gives them yet another piece of personal information, and a direct line to your inbox.
Saxalit gives every user a personal @saxalit.com address to use across every opt-out form. Confirmation emails and broker replies arrive in your Saxalit inbox. Your real email address never enters the process.
This single step meaningfully improves both your privacy during the removal process and your ability to track which brokers have responded.
// On every opt-out form, use this
Not your real email. Never your real email.
